Group Therapy

Adventures have a way of bringing people together and bringing out their best.

Group therapy plays an especially important role at Rise. Patients take part in exhilarating experiences and excursions that invigorate and move people outside of their typical comfort zones. These experiences promote bonding and provide teachable moments. At Rise, group therapy can happen anywhere and anytime.

Scuba-diving, parasailing, golfing and other activities can evoke great joy and deep fear.  They can provide crucial windows into our emotional affect, response to stress, and our ability to trust. These moments can also uncover deeply-rooted anger, phobias, and other symptoms of stress that can develop from living with addiction and mental health conditions.

The many adventures and activities in which Rise patients participate are for more than stimulation and exercise. They are the basis of group therapy curriculum. Rise counselors take careful note of patient responses to these experiences and use these as real-world lessons in how to understand, process, and productively manage our emotional responses.
