Futures recognizes that there are many substances that are commonly abused. This section of our Knowledge Center provides more information on those certain classifications of drugs we hear most frequently presenting challenges to the population we serve and the nation. This list is by no means comprehensive or exclusionary by design. Ativan, also known as Lorezapam, is a commonly prescribed tranquilizer intended to produce a medically induced calming effect. Ativan is from the benzodiazepine class of drugs and is on the DEA's list of Schedule IV substances. The most common uses of Ativan include treating anxiety disorders, as a sleep aid, muscle relaxant, anti-convulsant, or as a pre-anesthetic drug.
